Plagiarism is a growing problem in schools, FE Colleges and HE institutions. One of the key problems is that students are increasingly IT literate and encouraged to use the Internet to find answers in secondary schools - without any mention of plagiarism. Whilst it is easy to understand the importance of teaching children about the vast amount of information available on the Internet it is frustrating when students enter Further Education with the skills to find information on the Internet, but not the skills - or sometimes even awareness - that copying and pasting information from the Internet is not acceptable without proper referencing.
This section of the website therefore offers some online tools that can help students to reference correctly. It also provides a free plagiarism tester that can be used to demonstrate to students how easy it is to identify when they have copied someone else's work without acknowledging it.
