About MeI am a qualified English Lecturer currently working as a Learning Advisor in an FE College in Wales. My job involves teaching enrichment subjects, helping students with key skills, creating content for and maintaining part of the college Moodle site and delivering workshops on a range of IT software (as well as many other responsibilities).
About this siteAs my job role is varied I have encountered a lot of useful teaching materials, websites and programs. This website has been developed in my own time to share these resources with other tutors or their students. Often teaching resources you come across on the web are subscription only so I wanted to create a completely free website that only links to free resources and software.
Although, as you may notice I do include guides to software that is not free, this is because the majority of colleges do buy this software and the majority of students and tutors would be using it (Microsoft Office 2007 for example).
One of the main reasons I want to raise awareness of certain free programs (such as OpenOffice) is that it provides a compatible Office Suite that students or tutors can use at home at no cost. Many students use Microsoft Works that is bundled in with home computers and the file formats are different, meaning their work has to then be converted in college. If they were aware that their is a far better office suite available that is compatible with MS Office and is free, then surely they would be using it instead.
